#2 Detachable panels deliver fully recyclable pouch

Mondi and manufacturer of cleaning, care and conservation products Werner & Mertz have combined to develop a new pouch format to improve recyclability. The 100% recyclable pouch will be used for Werner & Mertz’s environmentally friendly cleaning brand Frosch and has detachable panels to make the separation of materials much easier. #3 Microwavable crisps taste like they’ve just been handcooked

A new pack format has been developed that helps to recreate the fresh taste of newly handcooked crisps in a move that could shake up the at-home snacking market. The Heat & Eat brand from Fairfields Farm promises to deliver the experience of delicious hot crisps straight from the microwave in just 30 seconds to taste like handcooked crisps that have just come from the fryer. Each bag contains 125g of hand-cooked crisps and a 50g dip. Heat & Eat is packed in a special, microwavable bag. Consumers just need to tear the bag along the zip, remove the dip and put in the microwave. Heat & Eat is available in two flavours; Sea Salted with Tomato Salsa Dip and Cheese & Chive with Caramelised Onion Dip.

#4 Unit-dose pack has push-through ease

Manufacturer of flexible packaging headquartered in Vienna, Austria, Constantia Flexibles has created a new blister pack innovation via their Product Excellence Centre in Spain. They have developed a new solution that makes unit-dose packaging more user-friendly. The innovative strip pack concept has been designed for oral dosage pharmaceutical pills and tablets. The Flexible Blister solution is claimed to combine portability and ease of use with excellent barrier functionality. The aim was to make a strip pack with a PET-based laminate with push-through ease. It has none of the sharp edges of a traditional blister. The developers were able to add micro-perforations to the PET laminate layer whilst keeping the aluminium barrier layer intact. The force needed to push the tablet through can be modified to achieve childproof and/or easy-to-open features.
