#1 Gusset pouch accommodates multiple compartments

An interesting development is in the offing from Ontario, Canada based sports nutrition packaging specialists Arranti.  Their new Chamber Pouch sees standup gusset pouches made with up to three separate chambers. This helps brands that want to sell combinations of two or three products in the same pack. The contents would typically be used together or mixed by the consumer.  The multi-compartment pouches are deemed suitable for cosmetics, beverages, pharmaceuticals, pet food and baby food applications. The patent pending solution. The pouches can also be fitted with sevearl value-added extras including reclosable zippers, spouts, sliders, hook-and-loop closures and spray triggers..

#2 Distinctive blister pack stands out from the crowd

Makarizo Hair Vitamin Capsules has been launched in a distinctive shape to ensure excellent shelf stand out.  The new pack format has been created that not only is different to anything else on the supermarket shelf but is also ensures that it is easy to open. It was created to compete with similar products which are already available in the market. The pack shape makes it easy to open/tear off the capsule in a single twist. The pack is also a clever representation of the actual shape of the capsule. The pack comes with three different colour codes to represent the product variants.

#3 Aseptic carton initiative can be heated for on-the-go hot drink consumption

SIG Comblibloc has been on the innovation once trail again with an initiative that meets the needs of consumers looking for hot drinks whilst on-the-go.  Research conducted by the Swiss aseptic carton supplier indicated that consumers in the Chinese market often enjoy the ‘warmth from within’ of hot beverages and 72% of consumers were dissatisfied with current heating methods for on-the-go products. SIG have developed a microwaveable solution for aseptic carton packs that would allow consumers to warm their drink. The new high-barrier ‘Heat&Go’ pack is aluminium free and can be heated in a microwave, either in a vending machine or store whilst on the go or at home before going out. ‘Heat&Go’ contents can be heated up to 60oC and can be produced on existing SIG filling machines with a one-time upgrade. The high-barrier film and light blocking pigment protects the product from oxygen ingress, flavour migration and light and water.

#4 Little pocket keeps Puerto Rican McDonald’s fans happy

TMcDonald’s in Puerto Rico has changed its french fries packaging so that fast food fans can get a ‘lucky’ potato wedge with their food. McDonald’s has redesigned its fries packaging to celebrate National French Fry Day (it’s a Puerto Rican thing!). The pack has a special pocket to accommodate the additional treat comprising a ñapa or potato wedge.  The pack change came about via agency TBWA. The concept gained traction following a social media post from McDonald’s shared on April Fools’ Day. The joke garnered many positive reaction, which encouraged the fast food chain to make the pack a reality for one day only. See also Popcorn packaging stores hidden burger and fries.
