#1100 different label designs gives Spanish startup competitive edge

Spanish cold press juice brand Romantics is delivering a customised packaging solution to improve consumer brand engagement in more than 3,000 Spanish points of sale. The brand is using HP Indigo digital print technology to deliver a series of unique Romantics bottle labels. There are 100 different label executions in the range.  Digital print allows the Spanish business to easily create multiple executions as well as produce short runs with a quick turnaround. This strategy helps Romantics deliver a differentiated and more personalised experience to the end-user. Romantics used an HP Indigo WS6800 digital press to deliver the project.

#2 Cut to size corrugated solution reduces packaging overuse


A new piece of kit has been launched that helps reduce the amount of air and packaging material that is used when sending out products in the fast growing e-commerce industry. Slimbox is a bespoke box creative capability that allows users to choose from a large number of boxes sizes from a Slimbox app or they can create a box by entering the dimensions. The machine is controlled entirely with the Slimbox app. The machine and the app get automatic updates with new boxes, creations and features.  Slimbox cuts the corrugated cardboard into the shape of the user’s choice and automatically decides the exact cutting speed and preferred quality to guarantee a perfect result. Slimbox claims to reduce user carbon emissions by at least 40%.

#3 Heat-retaining disposable flask enables delivery of hot tea within 30 minutes

Chai Point is India’s largest Chai tea retailer who have recently launched a new packaging format to help get hot product delivered to people’s homes. The innovation is a heat-retaining disposable flask.The business has expanded their services to deliver the hot tea as well as snacks to customers’ homes and offices within 30 minutes of placing an order.  All five layers of the pouch are approved for food industry usage with the innermost being certified BPA free.  Chai Point brings a perfectly brewed cup of Chai and is revolutionising the way Chai is consumed in India. The initiative started with from a Bangalore pilot store with expansion to other destinations expected to roll out soon in the Bangalore region and then beyond.

#4 Sugar cane based coffee pack starts roll out

Family-owned Swedish coffee brand Löfbergs is testing the use of bioplastics for their coffee packs. Oil-based plastic packaging is being replaced with packs made primarily from sugar cane. Löfbergs have an aspiration to replace the use of all fossil plastics in their packaging by 2020. The recyclable plant-based packs reportedly reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 10% and importantly have the same light and oxygen barrier properties as the oil-based plastic they are replacing. The solution is slightly more expensive than conventional methods but this cost is anticipated to come down over time.. Löfberg also have a Climate Compensation Programme through a solar energy project in coffee-growing Tanzania with an aim to reduce their climate impact by 40% to become Europe’s most sustainable coffee company.
